Wider Benefits

As well as saving the specific buildings discussed later in this booklet, the Trust can claim that its actions have had other beneficial effects in the county. For example, the Trust has been able to show, by example, how historic buildings can be repaired sensitively even where major works of alteration have been necessary. Furthermore, the successful renovation of a building can encourage other owners of nearby buildings to undertake better and more sensitive repairs to their properties. Additionally, by commissioning traditional repairs to an historic building, this helps to keep old skills alive. And by helping to maintain the character of Norfolk, the County benefits from increased tourism.

Sometimes, the mere fact that the Trust has shown interest in a building has encouraged others to step forward and take on the work themselves. In other cases, the Trust has supported the District or County Council in taking the legal steps necessary to ensure that the building is properly repaired and has given supporting evidence at Local Public Inquiries.
